Pete the Cat: Snoring in my Sleepover Shoes
It’s that time again! Time for the 4th-Annual Stuffed Animal Sleepover! This year, children’s book star Pete the Cat is hosting a huuuge, groooovy sleepover party for stuffed animals in Fort St John. After the Library closes and the Librarians go home, the stuffies will get to work, decorating the Library for Christmas and trying to stay out of trouble…which isn’t always easy: last year, the stuffed animals had a race on the book carts, which ended in a huge crash! You can check out some of our sleepover videos here!
Gerald the elephant, who hosted last year’s party with his friend Piggie, has some advice for Pete:
“Pete! You will have so much fun! You will have ENORMOUS amounts of fun! Maybe…maybe…MAYBE you will have so much fun that you will make new friends! And you can go HOME with a new friend!”
“Hooray!” says Piggie.
And it’s true! Pete will go home with one lucky new friend in the morning, just like the previous years’ hosts, including Elephant and Piggie; Scaredy Squirrel, and the Pigeon.
Pete is looking forward to having a groovy time, and maybe rocking out in his sleepover shoes. He is a bit worried that he might get homesick, since this is his first sleepover, but will he cry? Goodness, no! He’ll just carry on, singin’ his song,
“I love my sleepover shoes, I love my sleepover shoes!
I love my sleepover shoes, I love my sleepover shoes!”
If you don’t have plans this Friday, consider dropping in to the North Peace Cultural Centre for the Talent Show.

I can’t believe it’s the 40th annual CDC Talent Show. I remember dancing in this show as a child and being ridiculously nervous and excited. I remember being there as a spectator, soon after its inception, when it was hosted in the Mackenzie Inn ballroom.
It’s a brilliant event for many reasons. The show brings us together as a community to enjoy fabulous entertainment. It offers a venue for performers, young and older to showcase their talents. Lastly, this event raises a lot of money for valuable programs for young children. I look forward to it every year.
Yet this year, in my current position, it occurred to me that I love this show, for yet another reason. The entire evening has flexible entry and exit from the performances. How often can you take children into the North Peace Cultural Centre and then leave when you need to, without judgment or disruption? The Talent Show is chaotic and fabulous. You can come and go. So it’s a perfect opportunity for parents of young children to introduce their children to live entertainment in a safe, fun way.
Hope to see you there!

This year the Librarians have invited Gerald and Piggie from Mo Willems’ award winning Elephant and Piggie series to host our annual sleepover on November 30th! They will be in charge of decorating the Library and getting the place ready for a visit from Santa. This is a big job and they need lots of help! Gerald and Piggie would like to invite all of the stuffed animals in town to join them for a sleepover! They will have a video camera with them to record all of the fun they have and the mischief they get into!
Will they have another book-cart crash? Will someone get stuck on the ceiling? Will that monkey get flattened in the laminator again? Check out our two-part video of last year’s event: Scaredy Squirrel’s Sleepover!
Kids can drop off a stuffed friend at the Library by 9:00pm Saturday, November 30th. When they pick them up at 9:00am Sunday, December 1st, we will all sit down with some hot chocolate and a treat to watch their crazy video! Your stuffy could be the star of the show!
This is for kids of all ages, free and no registration is required. Please distribute widely.
