As usual, both events this month are active, creative and open ended. Our objective with Daddy and Me is to celebrate dads and all that they bring to the lives of children. Obviously not all dads participate in these type of events but we hope that all dads recognize the importance of a male role model in the lives of young people. Whatever your active play looks like, do it early and often with the little people in your life.
Here is an excerpt from the blog LiveScience on The Science of Fatherhood: Why Dads matter
What’s most important, [researcher Laura] Padilla-Walker said, is that fathers realize they matter. Quality time is important, she said. “That doesn’t mean going on fancy vacations. It can be playing ball in the backyard or watching a movie with your kids,” she said. “Whatever it is, just make yourself available and when you’re with your children, be with them.”

February’s events are more spread out. Hopefully this means your family can make it to both events. As usual, Gym Night is the second Wednesday of the month at Robert Ogilvie. The community event is Saturday, February 23rd in the morning. I hope February is treating you well. See you soon!

Here is an inspiring blog about the Top 10 Reasons Dads Matter. It’s short and to the point.
Please forgive the short notice in posting for the January event. The holiday crept up on us. Hope to see you at one or both events. Please remember to call Pam to register for the gymnastics session on Saturday.

Our Daddy and Me funding continues until March 2013. If things work out as we hope, the calendar of events from April – December 2013 will be published later this spring.
Daddy and Me Gym Night is always the 2nd Wednesday of each month at Robert Ogilvie from 6 – 7:30. This month the community Daddy and Me event is hosted by the North Peace Cultural Centre.
We hope to see Dads at either or both events. We are very proud to celebrate Dads in our community!

Tonight was our biggest Daddy and Me gym night. We had 16 dads and 21 kids out to Robert Ogilvie Elementary. These kids got 60 minutes or more of active play. I am so pleased to be a part of a community where Dads are valued and physical activity is a priority. What a great night!
Many thanks to SD 60 and North Peace Community Resources Society for sponsoring this monthly event. For more information, call Jaimelia @ 250.794.7336.
The Dinosaur event is always super fun and well attended. You and your little one will have LOTS of fun. The gym nights have been slowly growing and are a great way to get exercise, learn to interact with others and play in a boisterous environment. Hope to see you at one or both of the events.

Dad’s and other important male caregivers are essential in the physical, emotional and psychological health of their children. This book by Neil Gaiman is an excellent, honest look at the irreplaceable role Dad’s play in our lives. I highly recommend it.

They also have this book at the FSJ Library if you want to have a look.
Gym Night is one of my favourite events. It is a blast to see kids and their dads having fun together. Very inspiring! Dads or other male caregivers play differently than moms; not better, but different. Kids need both.
We had 14 dads out tonight with 20 kids. Good times!
I hope the weather doesn’t keep everyone in the house. We hope to see you at the gym and at the Library.

Great turnout for Daddy and Me Gym Night tonight. SD 60 is pleased to provide this event to our community. We love to promote playful learning and honour the role dads play in the lives of children. It also gets kids and dads active which if you hadn’t noticed is my current soapbox. It was a great time. Join us next month!
