December is very busy for all of us. Â Dr. Rick Hansen has written a revolutionary book, Hardwiring Happiness, which warns us that our brains are velcro for bad experiences but often don’t notice the positive moments. This is especially true at holiday time. Â As a parent of both adult and young children, I have seen how the daily routines overshadow the beauty of parenting. Â It is often in retrospect that I appreciate the gifts that were in front of me.
Instead of getting overwhelmed with the negative, Dr. Hanson, recommends taking just a few seconds at a time in the flow of daily life, to turn your experiences – the pleasure in a cup of coffee, the accomplishment in finishing a tricky email, the warmth from a child’s smile – into lasting inner strengths built into your brain, such as resilience, balance, and positive emotions.  This is a Christmas gift for yourself and your children.
We wish you moments of joy and relaxation between the hours of hustle and bustle.
