During one of our earlier classes in the year, some of the boys found a battery operated tea light (one of many that i keep in the room). I put these out to see how each child will react and play with them. Some children will build campfires with the light, pretending it is fire, some will use it at the play dough table and make birthday cakes.
This group of boys had decided that they wanted to see the tea light glow.
They asked me if we could turn the lights out in the classroom? To which i obliged, and made the classroom dark. It worked, the tea light glowed!!!. Â Now there was one problem though, some of the other friends in the room were not happy that they were now trying to play in the dark. I explained that I would have to turn the lights back on and they would have to find another dark area in the room to see the tea light glow. They searched the room for awhile until they found a drawer at the sign-in desk. They placed the tea light in the drawer and closed to so only a crack was open. They each took turns looking into the crack to watch the tea light glow.Once each one had a turn to see the tea light glow they began closing the drawer then opening it really fast to see if the light was still on.
I think that they were testing to see if the  tea light was still on and glowing even when the drawer was closed. It reminded me of the riddle… If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it … does it still make a sound?
Amazing watching little minds learn new things!!!!!!
